BMS Minerals in the Community |
It may be apparent to some that the primary BMS Corporate Social Responsibility focus is on support of sport. As both directors of the company have spent much of their lives involved directly or indirectly in sport at the highest levels, this is probably not surprising. We believe sport amongst the youth to be the best way of breaching racial, ethnic, religious and cultural divides, it trancends the gender imbalance that pervades in many countries today, and we concur with the mantra that a healthy body goes a long way to ensuring a healthy mind.

BMS is a commercial company that seeks to make profits for its shareholders. The directors endeavour to achieve this transparently, ethically and responsibly and with our clients' best interests at heart. Part of the "responsibly" component is addressed via our new Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which was recently kicked off with a cash donation to the Kyadondo Rugby Club U13 "Balenzi" rugby team. This local rugby team, comprising orphaned and disadvantaged kids from the rough environs of Kyadondo Club in the centre of Kampala, have the distinction of being the first XV's rugby team from Uganda to play in Europe!! We are proud to have been involved in this historic event. (Read more on www.touraid.org.)

BMS is also supporting the Uganda Junior National Swimming Team, soon to depart to Zimbabwe for the Sub-Saharan International Swimming Championships, with particular emphasis being on supporting talented Ugandan children who qualify for the squad but are unable to afford the significant costs of foreign travel when representing the country. Swimming is a very new sport here in terms of international competition and is very under-funded and it is hoped that with support from BMS and others the team will continue to build on a short but already impressive pool record.
